Rock Climb: Puzzle Palace

Went climbing last Thursday (July 1) with Tim and Andy. Was raining at Index so we drove to Leavenworth and did some sport cragging at the Puzzle Palace. Began with Cryptogram (5.9) and Piece of the Puzzle (5.9+), then Thing-a-ma-bob (5.10a) and Perplexus (5.10b). It was mostly cloudy all day with occasional spits of rain. Pretty rough hike (~50 min.) up a sandy gully for a bunch of bolted climbs - not sure I'd make the effort again, but it was nice to climb some new routes in a new area. Perplexus was by far the best - the guidebook gave it 4 stars; I'd give it a solid 3, along with Piece of the Puzzle. The blocky granite was different than the typical L-worth slab and crack and seemed mostly good, though Tim pulled of a softball-sized chunk along the way up Cryptogram that gave us a fright! Both the 5.9's felt soft for the rating while the 5.10's were more on par with other sport climbs I've led.
