Rock Climb: Index Town Walls - GNS

Paul and I went to Index this morning to get some climbing in before work. Was thinking of taking him up Aries to do the chimney and roof again, but it was a zoo. Two parties were lined up on the off-width exfoliated crack at the base so we scrambled up the 3rd class gully to the first ledge to scope the scene out. There was a party on the corner crack already so we picked the first open line we could - Great Northern (5.6). I followed right behind the second of a pair of climbers. They went up the twin 5.6 cracks so I traversed out right and nabbed the splitter crack. By the time Paul joined me those guys had rapp'ed, but there were more coming up so we decided to climb to the top and rap down the other side, avoiding the traffic behind us. By the time we were on the ground everyone had cleared off lower GNS. I led the off-width, the corner crack and the Aries roof to the GNS anchors. Skipped the chimney pitch though - didn't have the time to tackle it. Even so, Paul found each pitch challenging - particularly the corner finger crack, though he aced the intimidating roof with nary a fall - nice! By then we were running a bit late and jetted back to Everett to work at the Crags.
