Herman Saddle: my first backcountry ski tour

Jeff Voigt and I spent the day ski touring around Table Mountain. This was my first experience backcountry skiing and I enjoyed it. The weather was gorgeous with stunning views of Mt. Shuksan and Mt. Baker. Avalanche danger was virtually nonexistent, so we were free to travel wherever we chose and the touring portions or our trip were thoroughly enjoyable. However, the downhill skiing wasn't that good. There wasn't any new snow and the slopes were pretty well tracked from the previous weekend's skiers. Also, after traversing around Table Mountain, my legs were extremely weary. Following several feeble attempts at making turns in the chop, I gave up and booted down the steepest sections, saving my remaining energy for the ski out. Jeff has posted some pictures on his website here.
